Q: Is the EarthClear packaging used by Stonyfield compostable?
A:

PLA itself can be composted, but the particular blend used in the Stonyfield multipack cups has not yet been certified compostable. The Stonyfield packaging actually has a very positive impact on the environment because it is produced from renewable plant-based material, not oil.

Q: So do I recycle the yogurt container or simply throw it away?
A:

The recycling infrastructure for PLA is in its infancy and the technology has been limited, so far. There are only a few organizations in the United States that can recycle PLA and they are not municipal recycling operations. Yet, resin producers are actively working with the recycling community to strengthen opportunities.

Q: Dear Clear Lam Expert,You state the Snyder's bag ('individual components')is compostable; what about the metallic film component in terms of compostability/ toxicity... in particular what metals in what quantity are in it? Thanks
A:

The metal is Aluminum and the thickness of it is measured in Angstroms (very thin coating of aluminum). The aluminum does not interfere with Composting and is considered non-toxic.

Q: What brand PLA film do you use for your multi-packs? Will it pass a "Cedar Grove" compostability test? Is the film BPI approved. And is their any starch? I will be looking for 10million pieces of a clear bag for marketing a dry fruit and nut product
A:

Our structures are blends that incorporate Ingeo™ Biopolymer produced by NatureWorks LLC. Our modified blends are in the process of becoming certified under ASTM standards. Each variation of our material requires separate certifications.

Q: We currently use metalized film for our packaging as we need this level of barrier to reach our required shelf life. Will your film provide the same level barrier as metalized?
A:

Fortunately, we offer a modified biopolymer with metalized coating that achieves the barrier properties of traditional oil based metalized film. Please see the contact us portion of the website to provide Project EarthClear TM and Clear Lam with more company information.
