In a closed loop system the scrap generated during production of raw materials is collected and re-used.
Our Blown film extruders reuse the trim scrap that is generated during the manufacturing process by re-pelletizing and returning it to the original extrusion operation. An in-house reprocessing system eliminates the possibility of product contamination. For example, typically for every 10 million pounds of plastic film that is extruded as much as 800,000 pounds of scrap would be generated. In the past, this scrap would be thrown out and would end up in a landfill. Today, Clear Lam is able to reprocess this scrap and re-use it in the film extrusion process.
The scrap generated from our Cast extruders is collected, chopped up into smaller pieces and turned into flake. This flake is then tested following our product stewardship program and then mixed back into the normal manufacturing process. Should the product stewardship program reject materials that no longer meet our standards then these materials are segregated but not discarded. The rejected materials are then sold to other companies that turn the material into multiple products including decking, park benches, parking stops, plastic chairs etc.
